HALO Society Founders

Co-founders Bric and Bridget Shelton are Fort Worth natives who originally became involved with CASA of Tarrant County in 2002 with their annual golf tournament. In November of 2006, they sat down with then CASA Executive Director Nancy Fisher and past board president Frank Poeschel to discuss how they could help abused and neglected foster children in Tarrant County even more.

Bric and Bridget thought that a professionals group for all ages would be the best way to reach out to the community and spread the word about abused and neglected children and how to become the silver lining for foster children. They put together a steering committee to help shape what the purpose and goals of the group would be. This group included Dave Anderson, Doug & Jodi Beard, Shannon Caldwell, Vincent & Amber Chacko, Pam Chapin, Vickie Daniel, Brian Dowling, Nancy Fisher, Alex Gorman-Smith, Bobby Harris, Amy & Johnny Hernandez, Amy James, Allen Lutes, Kristen Madison, Greg McCurdy, Coleen Mowery, Rachel Navejar, Bobby Shosty, Amy Watts, along with Bric & Bridget Shelton.

After plenty of ideas, Bric and Bridget came up with the name "HALO Society", which sums up the group's goals to become unseen angels for the abused and neglected foster children while doing so with high standards and elegance. After months of preparation, HALO Society held their first official event at Uncommon Angles art gallery in May of 2007. Now, with the incredible efforts, hard work and dedication of the Board of Directors, HALO Society continues to be one of the most dynamic auxiliary groups in the metroplex.

Today HALO Society has over 400 members and four service projects.  HALO House  accepts donations of necessity items & gift cards to provide for the basic needs of a child transitioning to a new, safe environment.   There is also Apple Tree Project which matches foster children with school supplies.  HALO also hosts National Adoption Day festivities for newly adopted children and their families.  Our annual fundraiser Cowtown Casino, is held the first Saturday in March.  If you want to find out how you can become a member of HALO Society and get involved, e-mail membership@halosociety.com

"What started as a dream on a dinner napkin has grown into a reality that has already changed lives in Tarrant County.  While we may never meet one child that we help, it is a daily reward to know we are helping give them a chance to lead a happy and productive life and help break the cycle of child abuse."

"HALO Society has grown to be more than I ever could have expected, and in such a short time.  I absolutely cannot believe what HALO has become and look forward to what it will be!  The opportunites to provide a silver lining for the abused and neglected children in our community blesses my life immensely."
